These are some of my go-to online reads and resources. I thought I’d share the blog love in case they inspire, help or encourage anyone else out there. Happy reading!
Motherhood & Family Life
- Simple Families – one of my more recent favourites. This blog is for you if you are looking to do less, live with less, and enjoy life and your family more.
- A Mother Far From Home – lots of practical parenting tips and strategies on how to manage life with lots of little people. Rachel’s blog and newsletters are down to earth and easy to digest. She’s also great at hooking you up with resources and articles from other Mummy blogs, which I really appreciate.
- Mumfidential – a mummy friend I made via my daughter’s nursery put me onto this one. It features various mummy’s and gives you an honest looks into their lives and journeys, which I find helpful as I navigate my own adventures with my little ones.
Food
When I was pregnant with my second I was put on a low glycemic index diet because of potential gestational diabetes. While my sugar levels turned out to perfectly healthy, I so enjoyed the way eating clean made me feel that I’ve stuck with it since. These blogs have been helpful as I’ve navigated trying to feed my family clean, nutritionally dense food, keeping little tummies happy and full, and planning and making food for a young family of five. I have written about my low GI food lifestyle and the nutrition lessons I’ve learned along the way here.
- The Whole Food Diary – a husband and wife team on a journey to enjoy good quality real food and to eat in a way that takes care of their bodies. I find their Instagram feed inspiring as I work to provide my own young family with clean, nutritious, delicious meals and snacks. She’s got great tips on how to make slow and sustainable changes towards clean eating and a zero waste household. Truthfully I’ve not attempted many of her recipes, I just enjoy reading about their food choices and pick up lots of tips that I can apply to my own efforts.
- Lizzie Loves Healthy – A London based mummy who is big on creating super healthy food for babies, children and families, which gets my thumbs up every time. Again she’s pretty big on Instagram. Her posts remind me that feeding my family good, clean food is achievable and can be fun for all involved too.
- Back to the Book Nutrition – her delicious peanut butter Larabars and granola have become Hills family staples, although I do tend to use way less maple syrup than she does for all sorts of low GI reasons. I enjoy her newsletters and she replies to every question, which I always think is one of the hallmarks of a good blogger.
Home Making and Home Management
- The Money Saving Mom: This woman is honest, down to earth and a natural encourager. I’ve come across a tonne of great books and resources thanks to her, so I always make time to read her e-newsletters. I would highly recommend her Make Over Your Mornings course – the content helped give me simplify the way I run my day and home, manage my own expectations about what I can and cannot achieve, and helped me map out how to best make use of my mornings so that I am on the front foot and my day flows better. I’ve had to put a lot of the principles I learned on hold as we welcomed our third child into the world, but I’ll be revisiting her suggestions when life settles again.
- Young Wife’s Guide – Jamie is a mum of five kids aged four and under thanks to two sets of twins. Respect right?! I enjoyed her “Finding Joy in your Home” course, which I think I stumbled across via another personal favourite, Rachel from A Mother Far from Home, and have been enjoying her resources and journey ever since.
- School of Decorating – I found Jackie’s resources and principles particularly helpful when trying to think through how best to decorate and furnish our first home. I learned a lot about planning and using colour, and mapping out how to get the most out of the space you have so that you create a home that serves and reflects your family. She’s got a lot of free resources, and a few paid for courses too. I relied on the freebies quite heavily and gleaned loads of useful info, so do start there.
So there you have it, a few good reads that I hope will help you along whatever journey you find yourself on at the moment.
